Set in the middle of the North Atlantic Ocean, Iceland is the most sparsely inhabited country in Europe. Lava fields, sand, glaciers and mountains are all available for viewing within the interior of the country. Though its name suggests otherwise, only ten percent of Iceland is covered with glaciers. In fact, it is a country that is dominated by hot springs, a mild climate and various amounts of daylight. Given its sheer diversity, Iceland is a country that offers breathtakingly beautiful vistas that are perfect for video production projects of all sorts.
Heimaey is the largest of about 18 islands in the Westman Islands archipelago and has a population of about 4,200 residents. Formed by volcanic matter that was originally under the water, it boasts lava fields, a Natural History Museum and Skansinn, where you'll find a small medical museum as well as a Norse timber church.
Vatnajokull National Park is Europe's largest national park. Covering about 12 percent of Iceland's surface, Vatnajokull National Park contains 12,000 square kilometers. Situated on Europe's largest glacier, Vatnajokull National Park also boasts Skaftafell, a hill that unfurls between the mountains and along a glacial finger, a visitor center and campsites that open in mid-May.
Considered by many to be one of the most beautiful waterfalls in Iceland, Gulifoss is a double waterfall located on the White River. Falling 32 meters down, Gulifoss -- also known as the Golden Falls -- is a popular tourist attraction that still provides ample opportunity for high-quality video production.
Located on the southeastern corner of Iceland, Hofn lies on a lagoon. This lagoon is formed of both glacial and fresh water and spans 40 square kilometers. Wide rivers and towering mountains dominate the landscape of Hofn. In spite of its remote location, Hofn boasts a folk museum, an art museum and a glacier exhibit.
Though it lacks any permanent populations, the interior of Iceland offers stunning beauty and is worth exploring for your next video production project -- if you come prepared.
