Some locations where you can rapidly create great quality and cost-effective videos in Kuala Lumpur, Malaysia

Kuala Lumpur (KL as the locals know it) offers great opportunities for shooting striking and engaging videos. The capital of Malaysia is a unique combination of old and new. It’s a city of 6.5 millions in which modern office buildings, business hotels and shopping malls, including the awe-inspiring Petronas Towers, jostle for space with the much older and picturesque Chinatown and Little India districts, as well as parks and buildings which still evoke memories of British colonial days. Its broad highways display an intriguing mixture of powerful modern vehicles and traditional cycle rickshaws. Home to a large range of ethnic groups, most importantly, the native Malays, Chinese and Indian peoples, Kuala Lumpur offers a correspondingly diverse choice of cuisine, bars and nightlife.

It’s easy to find inexpensive taxis to explore the city, but walking is probably the best way to find good video locations. Take it steady though, Malaysia’s year- round tropical climate can be challenging at first.

The Petronas Towers

One of Kuala Lumpur’s undoubted “must-sees”, the Petronas Towers were the world’s tallest building from their completion in 1996 until 2004. The two towers rise to an amazing 1,483 feet above the city’s principal commercial district. Connected by the famous Skybridge, 558 feet above street level, the towers offer unique opportunities for viewing the city and shooting video. Helpful signage shows the best vantage points for video and still photos and the building adjoins a popular children’s park.

It’s closed to vehicle traffic, so the Petaling Street market in thriving and bustling Chinatown, is an excellent place to think about making videos. It’s a busy area, great for people watching, with many colorfully decorated stores and restaurants.

So-called because it used to produce the bricks for Malaysia’s extensive railway network, Brickfields is now a historic preservation area displaying a huge variety of temples, churches, galleries and shrines, as well as many buildings constructed as far back as the 1920s. Guided walking tours are available giving up to 2 ½ hours of video opportunities.

The Batu Caves

Just a few miles north of the main city, these ancient caves are now used as temples and shrines and have been engineered to allow natural light to enter. A wide variety of statues and paintings will compete for your camera’s attention with the macaque monkeys who make the caves their home.

Aquaria KLCC

One of the largest aquariums in the world, this attraction offers the opportunity to view more than 150 kinds of marine life, including sharks, snakes, colorful tropical fish, piranha, turtles, seahorses and many more.
But video opportunities are not just confined to aquatic creatures. A separate section also houses a wide variety of reptiles, insects, spiders and butterflies.
